Travel Tuesday - Lombardi's in Little Italy, NYC

This is my favorite pizza place in NYC.

I have been to New York three times and I have been to Lombardi's three times.

I've been with my mom, with my friend Marcella and with my friends Jenni and Jenny. These photos were taken by Jenni on that trip.

I love the black and white tiles in the kitchen and those hanging lights. Oh and those metal stands for putting the pizzas on.

What is your favorite pizza place of all time and where is it?

I have to say that I do *love* pizza in Italy. Stateside though Lombardi's is my fave in NY, Giordano's is my big time fave in Chicago and here in Dallas my faves are Cavalli's (especially their nutella pizza!), Olivellas, Campisi's and Fireside Pies.

p.s. thank you for all of your advice and encouragement regarding the medicine taking. I am so proud of my little guy. He isn't fighting us anymore and takes it like a champ. Your suggestions helped us so much!

This sweet little man has his first ear infection. :(

The doctor gave us a Rx for an antibiotic. Well, little man does *not* like it.

Clamps his little mouth shut and then when I got some in his mouth started gagging and spitting it all right back out. Oh dear!

So, I need to hear from some of you veterans, how do I get this sweet boy to take his medicine and how do I get that pink stuff out of clothes? Does it stain?

5 months

Baby Boy, it has been a full, wonderful month with you.

On August 29th we had your baby dedication at church.

Such a wonderful day. You are loved by your church family.

Our special friends came over from Fort Worth to celebrate you with us.

We had lunch and dessert afterwards at our house and there were about a zillion kids here. Fun and wild. You like interacting with big kids so much. You had a great day.

You weigh over 15 lbs and are over 25 inches long! That's over two feet, buddy! Wow!

You learned to suck your thumb this month. It's really cute.

You've started playing with this puppy dog a lot.

Our friends Mindy, Jes, Amy, Emily and Baby Katelyn who gave her to you came to visit and we had so much fun with them.

You are so good at tummy time and are trying to scoot around a little.

You learned to sit up this month too. You watched your friend Liza sitting up when we went to her house and she set a great example! You sat up the best you ever had right after you watched her. Then the day Katelyn came over you started hanging onto your activity gym and sitting up while we visited.

Mama still likes to be ready to catch you.

We got Sophie the giraffe this month too and you love to chew on her!

We took you to one of our favorite restaurants, Rise no. 1, and showed you off for the second time to our favorite waitress there who first saw you when you were still in mama's tummy and was excited to find out if you would be a boy or a girl.

You sat in a high chair for the first time! We were at Freebirds with Mrs. Jessica. I think you liked it. You also sat in a high chair at the sushi restaurant with Mrs. Sarah and Mr. John and watched the tv! Oh dear.

You also sat in the grocery cart for the first time and you loved that! You were looking all around at everything. A whole new world has opened up to you with this new skill of sitting up.

You still like your exersaucer and all kind of things to play with whether they're intended to be toys or not. :)

It has been so much fun to sit and watch you play with your rings. You are very persistent. You like to chew on them and on the tower. They might even entice you to crawl one of these days. :) We'll see . . .

You and I are kind of getting the hang of this staying home together thing now that summer is sort of over and we're done traveling as much we've been getting into a routine.

We've been to baby storytime at the library with Mrs. Shevawn and Miss Claire and on some different outings and to visit friends and had a theme day with Mrs. Jenny and Colton and Caden. It has been lots of fun. I'm really ready for it to cool off some to make being outside and out and about even nicer.

Daddy took a half day off one day and we went around exploring with you and our camera. You got to ride in the hiking backpack for the first time. Such fun.

You bring so much joy to our lives and we love you very, very much! Happy 5 months, Buddy!

Our little man has started cradle roll class at our church. I am so thankful that he has the opportunity to learn about God from caring teachers and to interact with adults and other children from our church family. What a gift. His teachers have told me that he really likes the animals and especially the mirror. He loves mirrors at home too. :)

do you know what this is?

My friend Jessica gave it to me last night.

It's Amish friendship bread.

Now here's the thing I really liked about Jessica giving it to me. She gave it to me on day 9! I did not have to keep up with the mooshing of the bag, letting air out, adding stuff, etc. I just got to bake it! She even gave me the box of vanilla pudding it calls for in case I didn't have any in my pantry! Is that greatness or what?

Amish friendship bread reminds me of my friends Jenni and Laci.

They are the two people who have given it to me before. Actually Laci would just bring the baked bread to school in the mornings and let us all eat it! Absolute greatness.

Now I'm sure Amish friendship bread will remind me of Jessica as well.

It is in the oven as we speak absolutely tantalizing us with it's scent!

oh wait, the timer just went off!

I'm back. I took a photo of the finished muffins (I'm down to only one loaf pan right now because my lovely antique milk glass one (bottom photo) that had been my great grandmother's broke. :( So I made one loaf and one dozen muffins.)

I will upload it and add it to the bottom of this post!

I have four starters now. Would anyone like one? If you're local and would like one let me know. We'll see if we can work out a pass off. (sorry if you're not local but I'm not ready to delve into mailing liquids)

also a disclaimer: I broke a rule.

The recipe clearly says not to use a metal bowl or metal spoon.

Gotcha, check. (Did you see my ceramic mixing bowl and wooden spoon up there?)

BUT . . . then it came time to divide the batter into the four ziplocs and I was trying to think what would be the easiest/least messy way to do that. Each one was supposed to be one cup.

Yup, that was my mistake, a metal measuring cup dipped into the batter. oops!

What does it do anyway? Do you think it's ruined? Should I throw it out?

If you're not afraid to have a starter that ever so briefly had a brush with metal then they're still up for grabs. If I have somehow ruined it I'll completely understand if no one wants the starters.

Also is it bad that I used metal measuring cups (my others were in the dishwasher!) and metal measuring spoons (the only kind I have) when adding the final ingredients to my portion before baking?

s'mores

You may or may not know that I craved s'mores during my pregnancy, particularly 3rd trimester. I think I may have eaten one every day after school.

I ate so many that my sweet husband bought one of these for me. :)

It actually works surprisingly well and the compartment for water creates steam that helps eliminate the rubbery-ness that microwaved marshmallows can develop. Wow, is it crazy that I have this much knowledge of microwaved s'mores?

well nothing really beats the real thing over an open fire.

While we were visiting Adrian's family in Pittsburgh, one Sunday night we went out to the lake to take a swim and then have a cook-out. My father-in-law found these amazingly large marshmallows!

Look at it in relation to the graham cracker! Those suckers were huge!

The chocolate is already melty because we left the Hershey bars in the car a little too long. :) My mother-in-law kindly scraped them out of the wrappers and spread them onto graham crackers for us.

Have you ever been with someone for their very first ever s'mores experience? Adrian's cousin from England was visiting and we were able to introduce him to the American wonder that is s'mores!

Later in the week my mother-in-law had the brilliant idea to try nutella s'mores! Oh yum!

p.s. I keep seeing those strawberry flavored marshmallows at Target and wondering if they'd make a good s'more. What do you think?
