Project Du Jour: Programs

Today's project is to try to get as much done on the programs as possible before leaving for Bible study tonight. This entails not only design aspects but finalizing the order of the ceremony, music, etc. So . . . in order to "hit the ground running" after school I'd love to know . . .

- what did you love about your own wedding program?
- what do you wish you'd done differently?
- song suggestions for Prelude/Seating and Ceremony
- pics or links to programs that look really cool :)
- what info do you like a program to contain?
- any other talk about programs

I loved the font, that I created them myself, that they were inexpensive (bought paper at specialty store and had Kinko's cut and drill holes for ribbons), and that my attendants helped assemble (fun memory). I kept in mind that most people were going to throw them away after the wedding, so I did something nice as a keepsake, but kept it inexpensive.

This was something I ended up doing right before the wedding, and I would've liked to include a little blurb about each attendant, but ran out of time.

We included: a verse from one of the readings, ceremony (with music), list of wedding party members, a section titled "With Loving Thoughts and Memories in Their Absence" for my grandparents that had passed away, a short note to our guests, and our new address.

Here's my music list (I can't believe I still have all of this stuff on my computer!):

Begin with traditional prelude music. I would like the last two songs immediately before the ceremony to be "Shine on Us" -Phillips, Craig & Dean and "This Day" – Point of Grace

SEATING OF THE FAMILIES
How Beautiful (I like the version from the CD “The Complete Wedding Music Resource – Contemporary”, but if you don’t have that one, the regular version by Twila Paris will be fine)

PROCESSIONAL OF THE BRIDAL PARTY
“Canon in D” – Pachelbel (I have the version from “The Knot Collection of Ceremony & Wedding Music” performed by the English Chamber Orchestra and edited by Raymond Leppard. I like it because it sounds very “light,” but if you don’t have that one, I’m fine with another version.)

We had a real eclectic assortment of music: some traditional Searcy wedding music ("Turn Around" for the seating of parents, "You Fill Up My Senses", "Sunrise, Sunset", "There is Love"), "Wise Men Say", "The New 23rd", an African song for our unity candle, and a Doo-bop song for our processional. Basically, I picked songs that were special to me for one reason or another -- something that was "me". We were in a non-instrumental venue, though, too, so that automatically limited my choices (I had live singers).

Programs...I love a picture of the marrying couple, a list of what's happening when in the ceremony (including songs, etc.), and I don't know what else...maybe even a message to the people attending or a short synopsis of how the two met...I actually keep wedding programs -- I'm so sentimental.
