I saw this on our trip.

It made me want to reach right for my wallet.

um, actually not.

I'm sure there are probably some deletable dishes you can make with it but it just did not appeal.

Have you ever bought/cooked with duck fat?

What is the oddest ingredient you have bought/used?

I'm trying to think of mine and drawing a blank.

Maybe that means I need to break out of my shell a bit.

The French love cooking in duck and goose fat. Potatoes fried or roasted this way are so delicious!

What I want to know is what is to the left of the duck fat?

I tried to think of the oddest thing that I have cooked with and the only things that I could come up with were a couple of summers ago we went to the farmers market and got eggplant and made a meatless dish with it. And a couple of months ago I made a new recipe that called for "New Mexico Chili Powder". I didn't know that there were different kinds of chili powder and I had to go to Williams Sonoma to get it because none of the grocery stores around here carried it.

But neither of those are very exotic so we should probably try a few new things at our house. But that may have to wait until the girls are a little bigger. With our girls right now wild rice is different enough for them and something to be suspicious of (although I do cook with it on a fairly regular basis). We are just in that stage where everything "needs" to look "normal". :-)

I definitely need to get a life because I couldn't think of anything unusual that I have cooked with.

I've never used it, but I've had fries cooked in duck fat a few times, and they are delish!
