This post is completely unrelated to the photo but what is a blogpost without a picture, right?
So here's my question.
Do you have a microwave?
Ours seems to have bitten the dust and we're contemplating just not replacing it.
Would I miss it?
This is where I want to hear your thoughts.
Thanks!

Kelly, the microwave that John and I received as a wedding gift lasted EIGHTEEN years! When it broke, we didn't replace it right away. We probably waited 4-5 months (that's long in my book) and we survived by reheating things on the stove and boiling water the old fashioned way. It's definitely doable, but I love the convenience factor. I missed the defrost feature the most!
Another blog I follow (Heavenly Homemakers) replaced her microwave with a toster oven and loves it. She did it due to the rumors of negative effects on food. I'm not totally convinced on that so I can't answer. But James won't go without a miicrowave so it doesn't really matter! When ours died I considered not replacing it because it's just another thing sitting in the house. But James wouldn't consider it.
I don't know that I would be willing to function without the speed that at microwave provides. Yes, I could do most things on the stove or in my toaster over or regular oven. But I like that it is faster. Definitely worth contemplating though!
My first impulse was no way, no how could I do without a microwave. And we do heat up A LOT of leftovers that way. But my first thought was the lunches that I make for the girls, but then I started actually listing the things that they like for lunch and almost all of them are actually made on the stove top. They do like their mac and cheese from the microwave. And we like making oatmeal in the microwave, but both of those could be done stove top.
I think that for us the hardest part would be that we do eat a lot of leftovers and we usually reheat those in individual sized portions. And a lot of them cooked in the oven and I wouldn't want to turn on the oven to reheat one serving.
I would say just try it for a few weeks without one. They are very easy to get, so if you get desperate one day you can always just make a run to Target. And you can get very inexpensive ones and smaller ones too if you just want a counter top model. If you want to spend more too there are new ovens that act as both a microwave or a convection oven. Which might be a good option if you have ever thought that it would be really nice to have a second oven for baking in. I would make a list of everything that you use the microwave for and then figure out if you could do the same things some other way or if you would even want to do them another way.
While a microwave is definitely handy, I could live without one. Not a toaster oven... I'm not so sure.
A good friend of mine has lived without a microwave for years-- it might take some getting used to but I think you can totally do it!
We went without a microwave for a few weeks once when ours broke, but I couldn't wait to get a new one. Mostly for the leftover factor. I say try going without it and see how it goes. However, your little man sure does light up when the bell dings saying that his food is ready.
we haven't had a microwave since we moved here almost 5 years ago. it wasn't really a conscious decision, it's just how things worked out and in the year that we rented a home, we learned to live without it. we had heard about the possible health concerns. I only miss it very occasionally when I want to reheat my tea. otherwise, I don't miss it at all anymore.
I think everyone just about covered it. We do a lot of leftovers and i don't think we could do without one, but if we had a toaster oven that might do in place. I vote with wait and see. You might go ahead and do some research to find out which one you want, so in a moment of insanity you don't break down and buy the cheapest one you can find. You might even be able to find someone who would be willing to give you one. When ours broke, we were given one by a friend who had two extras in her garage from her kiddos that were no longer in college. (I posted the need on Facebook) We still have it in the garage. So, if you are driving through, you could have that one. :) Good luck!
