summer afternoon

pink & yellow

Don't they just remind you of strawberry lemonade?

Speaking of, have you had the sparkling lemonade at Sonic?
I like it.

Notice those "Anne" books up there?

Have you read the series?

Seen the movie?

(Please tell me you have. And if you haven't, please, please do yourself the favor of both reading and watching.)

Right after we brought baby boy home from the hospital and I needed some light cheerful reading, I re-read Anne of Green Gables. I usually re-read some of the later books in the series but I am so glad I re-read that one. So good.

I just finished reading Before Green Gables by Budge Wilson. Before checking it out from the library I was conflicted about whether or not I truly wanted to read it. I was intrigued and don't you always want more of your favorite characters? And yet I wondered if it would be true to L.M. Montgomery's stories and if it would in any way tarnish my thoughts/feelings about those books. Besides, I thought Budge Wilson was a man and I wasn't at all sure that a male author could write about Anne. I did check it out, turns out that Budge is a woman and I enjoyed the book. Have any of you read it?

For more randomness as if this post isn't random enough already, do you know what those little spoons in the above photo are from? Just wondering.

Do you like or collect state plates like the Missouri one above? I do. Collect them that is. Oh and like them of course because why would you collect something you didn't like?

I'd like to go back to Missouri. I have so many wonderful friends and family there. Have you ever been to Missouri? What do you like about the show me state?

Have a lovely summer afternoon sipping strawberry lemonade, going to Sonic or settling in with a good book.

Kelly

p.s. Happy Birthday, Marcella. A "pink" post for you. :)

Love your children's lit post. You go girl. Shocking! I haven't read the Anne of Green Gables series. Must put that on the list. You should see my bedside table--just full of books. Yesterday at the library, I checked out two books--the same title. So dad and I could read it at the same time. And I kind of did it sneakily as if the librarians would be mad at me for taking out two of the same books. :) Have a great day!

I love Anne of Green Gables and really want to re-watch the movies. I have them on my list to look out for the next time I'm at the library.

Thanks for the tips on maternity clothes - glad to have a few more places to check!

I have read Anne but need to re-read. Hannah has begun to show some interest in it, but not a lot yet. She would rather read about animals still. :-)But I do have a husband who plays the theme song on piano for me!
I first thought those were measuring spoons. But then I looked and they are all the same size. I hope you tell us what they are. :-) Not in to plates unless we are eating off of them.

I have seen the TV series, but I have not read the books. I have been thinking I need to get an Irving Library card. I a sure I could save a bunch of $ that way.

Cute little spoons. I have no idea what they are from, but they look like little miniature sand pail shovels. I think that I will have to try the sparkling lemonade at Sonic. I recently made lemonade from fresh squeezed lemons for the first time in my life and now I am addicted. I think that I will be drinking a lot of that this summer.

Of course you know that I love both the Anne books and the movie. I have not even heard of Before Green Gables. I will have to look into that. Did you know that there is another version of the movie? It saw it at the library, but decided that the Megan Follows version just couldn't be topped. I think that it was made by the BBC.

Karen, I will have to say that I gasped out loud when I read that you haven't read the Anne series. I don't know what else is on your must read list, but I think that Anne of Green Gables should be bumped to the top--it would make for great reading while sitting on that new porch in your new rockers. :-)

And one last question: Kelly, do you like to collect State plates in general (do you just buy them when you find them) or do you just like to buy ones when you visit a new state or a state that you have been to before?

I love pink & yellow, too. I haven't read the Anne series, but should, I guess b/c you & my sister loved them :)

My baby needs me! Happy LATE birthday!!!

It's funny, but after I had Eli (and it seemed all I did in a day was nurse, nurse, and nurse some more!) re-read a few of the Anne books, too! Must be something about having your first baby that makes you want to re-read all those books you had read and read and read as a young girl. I keep meaning to re-read them now seven years later, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Soon...

I have every book L.M. Montgomery has written as well as a biography. Now I MUST read that book!

I, too, have family in Missouri, but haven't been able to get up there in a while. I have fond memories there, especially from college days. My aunt and uncle were my escape from Searcy any time I wanted to get away.

I normally don't comment, but I always love your blog. :)
